On 18 April 2024, around 120 students gathered at Ørestad Gymnasium in Copenhagen for a debate with eight candidates running in the European elections, representing different political groups.

The event, organised by the Danish upper-secondary school, brought together 25 students from one class alongside several other classes, creating a dynamic and engaged audience of approximately 120 participants. The debate formed part of the school’s involvement in the Jean Monnet “European Values” project, co-financed by the European Union.

As a partner in the Jean Monnet “European Values” initiative, Ørestad Gymnasium works to strengthen teachers’ and students’ knowledge of European history, EU institutions and the Union’s fundamental values. The project aims to encourage critical thinking and informed civic participation among young Europeans.

During the debate, students actively questioned the candidates on key European issues, ranging from climate policy and migration to the future of EU integration and democratic governance. The discussion was marked by direct exchanges, with students challenging candidates’ positions and comparing the approaches of different political families.

The event highlighted the growing interest of young voters in European politics and demonstrated the importance of structured dialogue between students and political representatives ahead of the European elections.
